The Place and Finish Superintendent manages all aspects of a construction project, from its early stages to completion and handover. Overseeing onsite activities, coordinating subcontractors, and ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and the required quality standards. The Superintendent is also responsible for
job site safety, scheduling, inspections, and quality control.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and direct people, equipment, and resources in the construction of projects.
- Partner with the foreman to ensure the sufficient deployment and productivity of work crews.
- Communicate openly with the general superintendent and project managers and report any issues affecting the project plan.
- Work as a team member and leader to pour, level, and finish concrete successfully.
- Use survey equipment to ensure proper installation of components.
- Organize and coordinate the daily activities of all crew members, subcontractors, and equipment and utilize corrective action to keep the project on time and within budget.
- Identify and execute best practices concerning the efficient use of construction materials.
- Plan work in an efficient and practical order, maximizing progress in a safe and timely manner.
- Lead or direct daily safety huddles and stretch/flex programs.
- Review and adhere to construction schedules, ensuring milestones and completion dates are met.
- Ensure company equipment is lawfully operated, cared for, maintained, and used effectively.
- Read and interpret project plans and specifications.
- Promote, execute, and adhere to the company's safety program and encourage all employees, subcontractors, and consultants to adopt safety as a culture.
- Conduct daily and weekly safety meetings and inspections.
- Review safe work plans/hazard assessments with the crew before job commencement.
- Work with the Safety Department to investigate damage, incidents, or near misses at the worksite and ensure proper procedures follow the Company's Safety Program.
- Work safely and responsibly so as not to injure oneself intentionally or unintentionally or endanger the well-being of others.
- Ensure all new hires receive their required orientation and attend company-designated training.
- Monitor and manage employee attendance, ensuring the timely arrival and participation of all crew members and notifying employees of rain days before the start of the work.
- Delegate tasks and accountabilities, instruct, supervise, lead, and direct base crew.
- Liaise between the company and employees on a variety of employee-related matters.
- Comply with relevant legislation regarding employee management, terminations, and resignations.
- Liaise with the Human Resources department on employee-related issues, including employee development, benefits, training, terminations, and investigations.
- Ensure consistent and fair application of the progressive disciplinary policy.
- Continually develop yourself and your team through ongoing training, education, etc.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications
- 10+ years of field coordination or relevant commercial construction project experience.
- Comfortable training others on the use of powered finishing equipment. Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
- General problem-solving/conflict resolution skills.
- Understand basic project financial information (monthly cost projections, labor costs reports, etc.)
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to successfully pass a background check related to driving.
- Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.
Two plus years (4+ preferred) of concrete finishing experience within Commercial Flatwork.
