A Layout Field Engineer is responsible for implementing and verifying the accuracy of project layouts in the field, ensuring that construction follows the blueprints and specifications. Utilizing surveying equipment and techniques to establish control points, baselines, and other reference lines for construction, and verify that the building, infrastructure, or other structures are built according to plan. Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Startup
- Create a new project in the data collector.
- Import the data files created by the FE manager.
- Double-check site control to ensure everything is within tolerance to continue.
- Coordinate with the project team on when and how the work will commence.
- Ensure the needed layout materials are provided.
- Start layout.
- Project Maintenance
- Continue daily layout needs for the project. Always try to stay ahead of the work.
- Communicate with the team to better schedule daily activities.
- Coordinate the necessary as-built information and capture it.
- Provide as-built data to FE manager.
- Ancillary Tasks
- Maintain and clean equipment.
- Request supplies and materials through FE manager before necessary.
- Actively participate in the safety program.
- QA/QC of project to assist project team in minimalizing rework.
- As-built Standards
- Walls – Site and retaining walls with critical placement relative to other elements must be as‑built at the bottom, middle, and top at approximately 25’ increments.
- Columns – When necessary, two adjacent faces should be shot next to each visible corner at the bottom, middle, and top.
- Slabs – Shots should be taken at the appropriate grid increments to show the condition of placement.
- Anchor bolts – All anchor bolts should be shot horizontally and vertically at the top of each bolt in the pattern. Also collect the top of concrete to determine bolt projection. Ensure all bolts are plumb before collecting data. All data is to be collected as soon as possible and sent to the FE manager.
- Deadline – Have all as‑builts delivered by the 20th of every month unless needed earlier.

Required Experience, Education, and Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalent, seven (7) years related experience, and a minimum of 4 years in a management position.
- Knowledge of all phases of concrete and building construction
- Exceptional strong written and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to negotiate, resolve conflict, and deal effectively with all internal and external stakeholders professionally and respectfully.
- Motivated, trustworthy, solutions-oriented team player with/ desire to consistently improve
- Strong organization skills to manage and prioritize multiple urgent initiatives
- Valid driver’s license
- Must have reliable transportation to the workplace(s)/ job location(s).
- Ability to pass drug screening.
- Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and in the future.
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree emphasizing civil engineering, construction management, construction science, or concrete industry management is highly desired. And,
- 3 - 5 Years of previous experience working in a similar role with a major commercial concrete contractor.
- In lieu of a degree,10 years of industry experience, including five years as a Field Engineer for a major commercial concrete contractor, may be accepted.
