Compensation
- Salary depends on qualifications and whether hired as a Treatment Plant Operator I, II, or III.
- Treatment Plant Operator I - $44,935-$56,170
- Treatment Plant Operator II - $47,185-$58,980
- Treatment Plant Operator III - $54,620-$68,275
- Assists in preparing and maintaining plant records, both operational and regulatory.
- Perform the required operational laboratory tests.
- Advises the Water Treatment Supervisor of needed maintenance in the plant.
- Responsible for the implementation of appropriate safety standards.
- Perform daily checks of the Water Treatment Plant.
- Perform daily maintenance and cleaning of the Treatment Plant.
- Performs other duties, as assigned by the Water Treatment Supervisor.
- Remain accessible via personal cell phone during work hours for addressing job-related matters or emergencies, using city-approved applications for communication and response.
- Directly supervises the water treatment team in required operational and maintenance duties of the water treatment plants.
- Assists in preparing and maintaining plant records, both operational and regulatory.
- Directly supervises the required operational laboratory tests.
- Advises the Water Treatment Supervisor of needed maintenance in the plants.
- Responsible for the implementation of appropriate safety standards.
Responsible for the training of new employees assigned to the treatment team. - Remains accessible via personal cell phone during work hours for addressing job-related matters or emergencies, using city-approved applications for communication and response.
- Performs other duties, as assigned by the Water Treatment Supervisor.
High School diploma or equivalent.
Relatable Work Experience- Treatment Plant Operator I - none required.
- Treatment Plant Operator II - One (1) year of experience operating and maintaining a water treatment plant and system.
- Treatment Plant Operator III – Five (5) years of experience in operating and maintaining a water treatment plant and system.
- Treatment Plant Operator I – TCEQ Class D Water License or the ability to attain a D Water License within one (1) year. Valid Class C Texas driver license.
- Treatment Plant Operator II – TCEQ Class C Surface Water License. Valid Class C Texas driver license.
- Treatment Plant Operator III – TCEQ Class B Surface Water License.
- Skill in utilizing a personal computer, associated software programs, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain professionally effective relationships with external public/vendors, internal management and non-management employees, and City and other government officials.
- Ability to develop, implement, and administer goals, objectives, and procedures for providing effective and efficient services for the City.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as strong time and task management skills.
- Ability to learn a basic knowledge of general laboratory equipment, metering pumps and instrumentation.
- Ability to learn a basic knowledge of State and Federal regulations governing the treatment of surface and ground water.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Subject to sitting and standing to perform essential functions in an outdoor environment and under extreme weather conditions.
- Visual acuity, speech, and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate office equipment.
- Regularly scheduled for 5-day, 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; overtime occasionally required.
- Ability to lift up to 80 pounds with assistance.
- Ability to safely operate machinery and vehicles.
- Ability to remove and repair mechanical components of the treatment plant.
- Ability to work on a fixed evening or night shift.
- Will work around hazardous chemicals; must possess knowledge of the various chemicals found in the treatment plant.
- Will work around loud machinery noise; must protect from hearing loss associated with this hazard.
