General Purpose

The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring customers have a positive shopping experience. The Associate makes eye contact, smiles, and greets all customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treats fellow associates with respect, efficiently follows all company best‑practice standards as outlined in all work centers, maintains a clean work area at all times, and ensures proper merchandise presentation. The Retail Associate is expected to perform these tasks throughout the shift and may be requested to perform additional tasks in specific situations if that helps achieve customer service and operational goals.

Functions
  • Understand that safety is the number one priority and practice safe behaviors in everything they do.
  • Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment.
  • Keep egress areas clutter‑free and free of obstructions.
  • Immediately correct or report any unsafe conditions or practices to store leadership.
  • Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy; greet customers with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly hello, and thank them at every transaction.
  • Assist customers promptly and efficiently, answer questions, and resolve issues in a courteous manner, calling store leadership when necessary.
  • Represent and support the company brand at all times.
  • Clean the store by sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas.
  • Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and well‑organized.
  • Expedite newly received merchandise to the sales floor, merchandising items per best practice and monthly presentation guidelines.
  • Understand the Loss Prevention Awareness program, the Shortage Highway, and merchandise protection standards.
  • Safeguard confidential information, cash, credit card data, and merchandise.
  • Follow all Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies, properly process disposals, and notify store leadership for approval.
  • Handle cash, check, charge‑card, and refund transactions accurately and follow bankable tender procedures.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency and minimize workflow steps to maximize productivity.

Qualifications and Special Skills Required

Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative, and pleasant manner. Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments. No degree or certifications required. No specific years of experience required.

Physical Requirements /ADA

Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs. Spend 100% of working time standing, walking, and moving around the store. Bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop regularly. Occasionally push, pull, and lift more than 25 pounds. Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders, and other assigned supplies. Stockroom duties may require pushing, pulling, and lifting more than 20 pounds.
