What it's like to be a Wastewater Treatment Plant OperatorAs a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator at the City of Pharr, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficiency and reliability of our operations. Your responsibilities will include inspecting equipment and monitoring operating conditions, along with collecting and analyzing sewage samples using advanced analytical test equipment. You will be tasked with maintaining accurate logs of operations and maintenance while recording meter readings to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Additionally, you’ll perform general janitorial duties to maintain the plant’s administration building and grounds.
This position allows for autonomy, as you will perform your duties with minimal to no supervision from management while contributing to a cleaner, safer environment for our community.
What matters mostTo excel as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator with the City of Pharr, candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED) and have the capability to obtain a TCEQ Class D Wastewater Operator’s license within one year. A Texas Class C driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are essential for this position. Successful applicants will demonstrate strong analytical skills, with a solid understanding of the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances, as well as the chemical processes and transformations involved in wastewater treatment.

Knowledge and skills required for the position are:
