Job SummaryWe are seeking a motivated Carrier Sales Representative to source and secure reliable carrier capacity for available freight. This role is responsible for building carrier relationships, negotiating competitive rates, vetting carriers for compliance, coordinating load details, and tracking shipments from pickup through delivery. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator, strong negotiator, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, remote environment.
Duties/Responsibilities- Secure trucks for available loads using DAT, Truckstop, internal carrier networks, and relationship-based outreach.
- Build and maintain a network of trusted, reliable carriers and drivers.
- Match freight requirements with appropriate equipment types (dry van, reefer, flatbed, etc.).
- Verify carrier credentials, safety ratings, insurance, and FMCSA compliance.
- Negotiate competitive rates with carriers while protecting margin and service quality.
- Communicate load details clearly and professionally to dispatchers and drivers.
- Confirm appointments, transit expectations, and any special requirements.
- Track shipments from pickup to delivery and provide timely updates to the brokerage team.
- Maintain accurate load, carrier, and communication data within TMW and Excel spread sheets.
- Assist with check calls, POD collection, and issue resolution.
- Support brokers in managing overflow freight and high-volume periods.
- Strengthen carrier relationships to ensure consistent, repeat capacity.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Transportation, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field preferred.
- Three (3) years of relevant experience in carrier sales, freight brokerage, dispatching, transportation operations, or logistics may be considered in lieu of a college degree.
- Equivalent combinations of education, training, and relevant transportation industry experience may also be considered.
- Experience with FMCSA compliance, carrier qualification, DAT, Truckstop, and Microsoft Excel is preferred.
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time.
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, or move around an office environment as needed.
- Ability to lift or carry light office materials and supplies, generally up to 10–20 pounds.
