AIDE SPECIAL EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Aide for Special Education
SUPERVISES: N/A
JOB GOAL:
- To assist teacher in achieving teaching objectives by working with individual students or small groups to help them achieve the skill levels of the class as a whole.
- To provide a well‑organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possesses High School Diploma or equivalent. Passed Work Keys assessment or have an associates degree.
- Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.
- Holds a valid state driver’s license.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Must meet background clearance requirements as specified by Alabama Statutes and State Board of Education regulations.
REPORTS TO: Teacher and/or School Principal
SALARY: To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIESSKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to work with emotionally impaired students.
- Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions.
- Ability to assume responsibility for supervising students, understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Regularly required to talk or hear.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, sit and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, or operate office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
- Employee needs to be able to tell where a sound is coming from and hear in a noisy environment.
- Occasionally will assist in physical management of students.
- The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee must work with public and other staff, continuously meeting multiple demands from several people.
Length of contract and salary will be established by the Board.
EVALUATIONPerformance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Classified Professional Personnel.
