General PurposeUnder general supervision, performs complex and specialized work coordinating jury activities in an assigned district requiring the use of advanced specialized knowledge of court policies, practices and procedures and strong problem solving and communication skills to ensure the courts are supplied with adequate jurors in a timely manner; answers questions from court staff, litigants, attorneys and the public regarding complex statutory requirements and legal processes and procedures governing jury services.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsDistrict Jury Coordinator is an advanced specialist level class responsible for coordinating jury service functions and activities in an assigned district. Incumbents supervise a small staff at one or more court locations and are responsible for excusing potential jurors and deferring jury service, maintaining logs of jury requests and daily records of jury assembly, conducting juror orientation and coordinating jury impanelment.
Work requires the ability to understand and correctly explain legal requirements regarding jury service to court staff, jurors and the public. Incumbents are expected to carry out their responsibilities independently and with awareness of court policies, procedures, public service, and ADA issues. District Jury Coordinator is distinguished from Court Services Assistant III in that incumbents in the former class perform more specialized and responsible duties involving the coordination of the court’s jury services.
The following examples are intended to describe the general nature and level of work performed by personnel assigned to this classification. - Supervises the work of a small staff and manages employee performance; plans, organizes, directs and evaluates the work of assigned staff to ensure compliance with court policies and procedures; conducts staff meetings; establishes performance goals; regularly monitors performance and provides coaching and training for performance improvement and development; prepares performance evaluations and provides feedback to improve performance; recommends disciplinary action, when necessary, to address performance deficiencies, in accordance with court human resources policies and labor contract agreements.
- Performs jury coordinator duties in assigned court locations; answers questions from jurors, the public and court personnel regarding jury service policies, relevant statutes and procedures, requiring the interpretation of jury service requirements and procedures.
- Orders the number of jurors required for trials; processes affidavits; excuses potential jurors and defers jury service as appropriate; conducts juror orientation; disperses jurors to assigned courts based upon type and status of cases; projects the approximate time jurors will be available to the court when recycling of jurors is required; provides train tickets, bus passes and parking validation to jurors as needed.

- Receives and processes a variety of complex jury service documents; reviews documents for completeness and rejects incomplete documents; sends documents to other desks for further action as required.
- Accesses computerized case management systems and databases to retrieve information; makes complex updates to records in the jury management system; generates reports, documents and activity printouts; scans, indexes and verifies documents.
- Prepares on-call recordings with reporting instructions for jurors; makes various announcements to jurors.
