CompensationThe base hourly rate for this position is $31.19. This is a night shift 12‑hour position.
PositionJohns Manville is hiring a skilled Maintenance Mechanic II in our Phenix City, AL Plant. This skilled position involves installing, repairing, and maintaining machinery and mechanical equipment, working with plant management at all levels to support core values.
Your Day To Day- Troubleshooting by use of testing equipment and other measuring techniques.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts using hand and power tools.
- Adjust functional parts of equipment and control systems.
- Manage downtime by coordinating with production department personnel on routine preventative and predictive maintenance practices.
- Fabricate repair parts using shop equipment (welding, cutting, machine tools).
- Install and repair various types of piping.
- Install, repair, and adjust conveyors.
- Lubricate chains, bearings, gearboxes, etc.
- Rig, refurbish, and align equipment.
- Operate a forklift, manlift, scissor lift.
- General welding/fabrication.
- Always use safe work practices, follow all safety rules and procedures, immediately report hazardous conditions, and fully participate in safety programs.
- Perform safety observations and complete training assignments.
- Wear all personal protective equipment as required by management, including protective shoes, glasses, ear plugs, bump cap or hard hat, gloves, dust mask or respirator.
- Perform other duties as directed.
- Associate degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school; or two years in role with demonstrated skill.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Mechanic license or equivalent work experience.
- Welding certificate or equivalent work experience.
- Provide own tools.
- Able to complete CBT training and SCC.
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Basic arithmetic skills.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Visual acuity is required to work around and with machinery including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
