Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a higher education organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, overseeing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet accounts are properly supported. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly close activities by preparing and reviewing financial entries, reconciling accounts, and helping ensure timely and accurate reporting.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording transactions correctly and verifying that financial data aligns with supporting documentation.
• Prepare journal entries for routine and non-routine accounting activity while ensuring compliance with internal controls and accounting standards.
• Perform detailed account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies by researching underlying transactions and coordinating with relevant stakeholders.
• Complete bank reconciliations on a regular basis and investigate outstanding items to maintain accuracy in cash reporting.
• Analyze financial information to identify variances, unusual balances, and areas requiring correction before reporting deadlines.
• Support audits and financial reviews by organizing schedules, providing documentation, and responding to accounting-related inquiries.
• Assist with process improvements within accounting operations to strengthen efficiency, consistency, and reporting accuracy.
