Sr. Accountant

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support core accounting operations for a higher education organization in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This position will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing close activities, and ensuring balance sheet accounts are fully supported. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting knowledge, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

• Lead monthly close activities by preparing and reviewing financial entries, schedules, and supporting documentation to ensure timely reporting.
• Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger through regular analysis, correction of discrepancies, and consistent adherence to accounting standards.
• Prepare and post journal entries with complete backup, ensuring transactions are recorded correctly and in the proper accounting period.
• Perform detailed reconciliations for bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts, researching and resolving outstanding items promptly.
• Review account activity to identify variances, unusual transactions, and areas requiring follow-up with internal stakeholders.
• Support financial reporting needs by organizing reconciliations and close documentation for review by leadership or auditors.
• Strengthen accounting processes by recommending improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and internal control.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather financial data, clarify transactions, and maintain reliable accounting records.
