Senior Business Officer
- Coroners Service

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Coroner Service as a Senior Business Officer.

This newly created role will provide senior operational, administrative, and business support across the Coroner Service, helping to ensure the smooth and effective coordination of administrative functions and the delivery of a high-quality service to Coroners, bereaved families and partner agencies.

Working closely with the Senior Coroners Officer, Coroners, Coroners Officers, and Administrative Team, you will play a key role in supporting service delivery, coordinating day-to-day workloads, monitoring performance, supporting service improvement initiatives and acting as a senior point of contact for complex administrative matters.

This role offers an excellent development opportunity for an experienced administrator looking to progress into a senior operational support position.

What will you be doing?

The successful candidate will:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day administrative activity across the Coroner Service, including providing telephone cover, preparing, and maintaining the Court Room set up, acting as a Court Usher and monitoring and actioning all incoming commination to the Coroner’s inbox.
  • Support the allocation and prioritisation of workloads within the administration team.
  • Monitor performance, service standards, and operational processes.
  • Support coronial investigations, inquests and associated administrative functions.
  • Support business continuity, complaints, service reviews, and improvement projects.
  • Develop effective partnerships with Coroners, Medical Examiner Offices, NHS organisations, police, and other agencies.
  • Promote high standards of customer service across the service.
About you

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has significant experience within an administrative, business support or operational support environment.
  • Can effectively coordinate workloads and priorities within a busy service.
  • Has excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Is confident in analysing information and producing reports and management data.
  • Has experience of working with sensitive and confidential information.
  • Can build positive working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Is committed to delivering excellent customer service.
  • Can support, coach and guide colleagues to achieve service objectives.
  • Can work professionally and compassionately when dealing with bereaved families and sensitive circumstances.

Experience with in a Coroner Service, Local Authority, legal, judicial, or public sector environment would be advantageous but is not essential.
