The Philadelphia Inquirer is seeking a Business Reporter Intern to cover the evolving economy of the Philadelphia region, with a focus on how business trends impact everyday life.
This is a 9-week, paid, full-time internship running from June through August 2026.
What You'll Do
- Report on breaking news across a range of business topics, collaborating with reporters across the team and newsroom as needed
- Identify and develop follow-up stories that deepen and advance initial coverage
- Monitor social media and other platforms to understand what Philadelphians are talking about and bring those conversations into our reporting
- Aggregate relevant news stories affecting the region, with a focus on advancing the story and adding value
- Collaborate with reporters, editors, and other members of the business team
- Use social media as both a reporting tool and a platform for promoting work and engaging with readers
- Complete a final capstone project summarizing your experience and key takeaways
- Must be attending an accredited college or university
- Rising juniors or seniors studying journalism, communications, or a related field, as well as recent graduates and current graduate students
- Experience working for a college news outlet; prior professional internship experience is a plus
- Strong understanding of digital media platforms and audience engagement
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and journalistic ethics
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Willingness to learn new tools, formats, and reporting techniques
- A strong sense of curiosity and interest in sports, culture, and community impact
- Commitment to contributing to an inclusive and collaborative newsroom environment
