This role offers the opportunity to collaborate with nationally recognized surgeons, trainees, and multidisciplinary teams in delivering comprehensive care for complex eyelid, lacrimal, and orbital conditions. The ideal candidate will thrive in a collaborative, high-acuity setting and demonstrate a commitment to clinical excellence, surgical support, and academic engagement.
Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) in Oculoplastics practices within an academic ophthalmology department, providing comprehensive care for patients with eyelid, lacrimal, orbital, and facial plastic conditions under the supervision of attending oculoplastic surgeons. The PA works closely with attendings, residents, fellows, and multidisciplinary teams in outpatient, inpatient, and operative settings. Responsibilities include clinical care, surgical assistance, perioperative management, and participation in on-call coverage.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
- Conduct patient evaluations, including medical history and focused ophthalmic and periocular examinations, under the supervision of attending physicians
- Diagnose and manage oculoplastic conditions such as eyelid malpositions, tumors, lacrimal system disorders, orbital disease, trauma, and infections in collaboration with attendings
- Develop and implement treatment plans in coordination with supervising physicians
- Provide pre-operative, post-operative, and longitudinal follow-up care
- Perform in-office procedures as credentialed and as delegated by supervising attending physicians
- Prescribe medications in accordance with state regulations and institutional policies
- Assist attending oculoplastic surgeons in the operating room
- Participate in perioperative patient management under attending supervision
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of operative and procedural care
- Participate in the ophthalmology/oculoplastics on-call schedule under attending physician supervision, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Evaluate and manage inpatient and emergency department consults related to oculoplastic and orbital conditions, escalating care to the supervising attending as appropriate
- Collaborate with consulting services in accordance with institutional protocols
- Work within a teaching environment alongside residents, fellows, and medical students
