The LIU
12 Literacy Council supports and improves adult basic literacy skills. We provide instruction in ESL speaking/reading and writing, ABE reading, writing, and arithmetic, computer training and workforce development. Volunteers help students meet their goals through teaching and support.
We are currently seeking tutors (high‑school diploma required), tutor assistants, administrative volunteers, and fundraising volunteers.
QualificationsEffective volunteers should be dependable, empathetic, and committed to helping students succeed.
Required Forms to Complete- PA Child Abuse History Clearance
- PA State Police Criminal Record Check
- Federal Criminal History Record Check (fingerprint) [code 1KG6ZJ for fingerprinting]
- 916-AR1 Volunteer Request for Waiver of FBI-Federal Criminal History Fingerprint Record Check (if applicable)
- 916-AR2 Acknowledgment of Volunteer Obligations
- SE-703 Volunteer Registration Form for LIU Classrooms & Programs
- SE-704 Volunteer Release of Liability and Indemnity Contract
Volunteers will only be considered after completing the online application, uploading all required clearances, and submitting all required forms. A TB test is not required for volunteering with the Adult Education Program.
