8:30 am-4:00 pm Academic Calendar 180 Day Pay Rate: $20.25 per hour Full-Time Benefits include state pension (PSERS), paid time off, and health insurance. Second Language Desirable. To include, but not limited to, Spanish, Russian, Ukrainian, and Uzbek.

JOB GOAL To support instruction based on the general education curriculum and designed to develop English language proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assist in the administering of assessment of students at the time of enrollment for eligibility in the ESL program in accordance with state requirements for screening, identification, and placement.
  • Prepares students for English language assessments required pursuant to state and federal law.
  • In collaboration with others, assist with the implementation of the most appropriate language instruction educational program (LIEP) based on the student's English language proficiency and native language proficiency if available.
  • For students with Individualized Education Programs, collaborates with Special Education personnel to determine program and academic placement.
  • Complies with parental notice and placement requirements.
  • Implements LIEP provisions of English language development (ELD) throughout the school day.
  • Assists general education teachers with strategies for working with students who have LIEPs and are placed in the general education program for all or part of the school day.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of students, including current technology and whole group/small-group or individual learning.
  • Assist in ensuring a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity, interest, and abilities of students, and provides both social and emotional support for English Language Learners.
  • Uses the Pennsylvania English Language Development Standards Framework for planning instruction and assessment of English learners.
  • Provides equitable access to content for English learners at all language proficiency levels by providing research-based or sheltered instruction with fidelity.
  • Assist students in the learning process toward the achievement of established District curriculum goals, establishes and communicates clear objectives to the students for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • At least annually participates in evaluation of the LIEP to ensure its effectiveness based on student outcomes.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the law, District policy and administrative regulation.
  • Seeks the support of district specialists when concerns regarding student progress arise and collaborates with instructional staff to provide language support when appropriate.
  • Attends District meetings and serves on District committees as required and participates in in-service and staff development activities and staff meetings as required or assigned.
  • Participates in annual professional development related to ELD/ESL and maintains knowledge and proficiency in English as a Second Language requirements and current research.
  • Maintains confidentiality as it pertains to student and family information.
  • Note:

    All employment is considered provisional for up to 90 days in accordance with Act 168 of 2014, pending receipt of required employment history reviews. Final employment is contingent upon satisfactory review of all clearances and background checks as required by law.
