The School Outreach Coordinator is an integral member of the Morris Arboretum & Gardens Education Department, responsible for developing, coordinating, and expanding educational partnerships with the School District of Philadelphia and other community organizations. Reporting to the Director of Education, this position serves as the primary liaison between the Morris Arboretum and Philadelphia schools, connecting students with meaningful educational experiences that promote environmental science, horticulture, leadership development, and career exploration.
The School Outreach Coordinator manages a portfolio of youth engagement initiatives, including school outreach programming, the High School Internship Program, and the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program. The position works collaboratively with educators, school administrators, community partners, and Arboretum staff to strengthen existing partnerships while identifying new opportunities that expand access to environmental education for students throughout Northwest Philadelphia. This role requires a collaborative, organized, and community-focused professional who is passionate about youth development, experiential learning, and fostering meaningful connections between students and the natural world.
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop, coordinate, and deliver in-school and after-school educational programming for middle schools throughout Northwest Philadelphia.
- Serve as the primary liaison between Morris Arboretum & Gardens and the School District of Philadelphia, cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with school administrators, educators, and community partners.
- Manage the High School Internship Program during the academic year and summer, including student recruitment, scheduling, supervision, program coordination, and evaluation in collaboration with School District staff.
- Oversee the Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program in partnership with the Camp Supervisor, including recruitment, application review, selection, onboarding, and leadership development of middle school participants.
- Identify and cultivate new school partnerships and collaborative opportunities that expand environmental education and leadership programming.
- Encourage existing partner schools to participate in multiple educational experiences throughout the year, strengthening long-term engagement.
- Represent Morris Arboretum & Gardens at School District of Philadelphia meetings, workshops, Office of Strategic Partnerships events, and other community engagement opportunities.
- Collaborate with peer institutions and community organizations to develop innovative youth programming and environmental leadership initiatives.
- Assess the educational needs of partner schools and communicate program opportunities and recommendations to the Education Department.
- Track participation, evaluate program outcomes, prepare reports, and provide data to Education and Development leadership to measure program impact.
- Support evening and weekend educational events and perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Youth Development, or a related field required.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with schools, community organizations, and external partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and project management abilities.
- Experience coordinating multiple programs and priorities simultaneously.
- Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for educational and community events.
Preferred:
- Experience working with children, adolescents, youth leadership development, or educational programming.
- Valid driver's license.
