Reading Interventionalist
St. Malachy, an Independence Mission School, is seeking candidates for a Reading Interventionalist position.
The Reading Interventionist provides targeted, research-based literacy instruction to students who are reading below grade level. Working closely with classroom teachers, specialists, and school leadership, the interventionist assesses student reading abilities, designs individualized or small-group intervention plans, and monitors progress to ensure academic growth. This role is critical in supporting early literacy development, closing reading achievement gaps, and helping all students build the foundational skills necessary for long-term academic success.
The Reading Interventionist also serves as a resource for staff, offering strategies and support to strengthen literacy instruction school wide.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Dedicate approximately 75% of the workday to providing targeted, small-group and individualized reading intervention to students based on identified instructional needs.
- Implement research-based reading strategies aligned to student needs.
- Use assessment data to identify needs and differentiate instruction.
- Monitor student progress and maintain accurate intervention records.
- Develop and adjust intervention plans based on student data.
- Collaborate with teachers to align intervention and core literacy instruction.
- Provide teachers with strategies to support students' reading development.
- Lead Student Support Team meetings and prepare comprehensive student data reports to support data analysis, informed decision-making, and targeted student interventions.
- Communicate student progress and intervention needs with teachers, administrators, and families.
- Coordinate the administration of MAP and Terra Nova assessments, including the development and management of testing schedules to ensure efficient and effective implementation.
- Maintain a positive learning environment that builds student confidence and achievement.
- Support in the creation facilitation of monthly school based professional development sessions.
- Participate in professional development and stay current with research-based literacy practices.
Requirements:
- Deep knowledge of Tier 1 and Tier 2 instruction in reading.
Education and/or Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (Required)
- 5-7 years of experience as educator in an elementary and or/middle school setting (K-8 Preferred).
- Experience working with small groups or individualized instruction planning.
