Work Schedule

FT Monday through Friday. Core hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Must be flexible to work to 6 p.m. if needed depending on student needs.

Salary Ranges

$40,000 to $46,000

FLSA Status

Exempt

This position is contingent upon grant funding and is reviewed annually for continuation and is strictly contingent upon the receipt of necessary funding sources and contractual agreements.

Summary

The CTE Tutor provides direct academic support and specialized tutoring to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. The Tutor assists students with their coursework, helping them to understand and contextualize the content so they can maintain their enrollment and complete their program of study. The Tutor helps students build confidence and develop strategies for academic success, empowering them to become independent lifelong learners.

The Tutor also connects students to additional on-campus support services for remediation and/or developmental instruction, where needed. This position participates in College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certified training and collaborate with learning specialists within the Educational Support Services (ESS) Department. The Tutor also maintains student records, ensuring compliance with grant requirements and reporting expectations. This position reports to the Dean of Academic Support and Success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide direct academic support to students enrolled in Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
  • Become familiar with texts, syllabi, and pertinent course assignments.
  • Work collaboratively with CTE program faculty and learning specialists to create a coordinated network of academic support for students.
  • Establish a working relationship with CTE students and Educational Support Services (ESS) personnel.
  • Help CTE students understand and contextualize their coursework required to maintain good academic standing and progress through their program of study.
  • Meet with students one-on-one via in-person, phone, or Zoom meetings.
  • Utilize Socratic tutoring methods to foster independent learning and critical thinking skills within healthcare disciplines.
  • Abide by the college’s established Tutor Agreement.
  • Complete the required CRLA (College Reading & Learning Association) Level One training and other professional development modules.
  • Maintain for each pay period up-to-date and accurate Student Record and Progress Sheets.
  • Submit all completed paperwork according to the payroll schedule provided.
  • Complete online training modules as per the Department of Human Resources.
  • Maintain accurate time and effort reporting and other documentation required for Perkins grant compliance, ensuring all sessions focus on program-specific tutoring rather than remediation.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for college leadership, Perkins stakeholders, community partners, and grant funders to demonstrate program effectiveness and student outcomes.
  • Serves on college committees relevant to the success and retention of students enrolled in CTE programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

Education:

  • Possess a Bachelor’s degree in a Career or Technical area or closely related field from an accredited institution.

Certifications:

  • Act 153 Clearances (Act 34 PA Criminal Background, Act 151 PA Child Abuse History, Act 114 FBI Cogent Clearance Fingerprinting).

Work Experience:

  • Three years of experience in student services, career counseling, case management, advising, education, human resources, or related fields.
  • A minimum of three years proven experience teaching in a classroom
