OverviewThe Environmental Compliance Engineer II is a mid-level engineering professional responsible for supporting environmental compliance initiatives, permitting activities, regulatory reporting, and environmental program implementation for a variety of infrastructure, utility, municipal, industrial, and land development projects. This role applies technical engineering knowledge and environmental regulations to assist clients and internal teams in maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local environmental requirements.
Responsibilities- Prepare and support environmental permit applications and regulatory submissions.
- Assist with compliance evaluations related to environmental regulations and permit conditions.
- Conduct site inspections, environmental assessments, and compliance audits.
- Support erosion and sediment control planning and stormwater compliance activities.
- Prepare technical reports, compliance documentation, and environmental management plans.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies regarding permitting, inspections, and compliance matters.
- Review project plans and specifications for environmental compliance requirements.
- Support implementation of environmental monitoring and sampling programs.
- Assist with preparation of Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) plans, SWPPPs, and related environmental documents.
- Track permit deadlines, reporting schedules, and compliance deliverables.
- Evaluate environmental impacts associated with engineering and construction activities.
- Support remediation, mitigation, and corrective action activities when necessary.
- Participate in client meetings, project discussions, and field investigations.
- Assist with training field personnel on environmental compliance requirements and best practices.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance on environmental compliance procedures.
- Maintain accurate project documentation and records.
- Support proposal preparation and project budgeting activities as requested.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with company quality standards and safety procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required.
- Minimum of 3–6 years of related environmental compliance or engineering experience.
- Experience with environmental permitting, inspections, and regulatory coordination preferred.
- Experience in consulting, municipal, utility, industrial, or infrastructure-related projects preferred.
- Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record required.
- Working knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Understanding of environmental permitting processes and compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of stormwater management, erosion and sediment control practices, and environmental monitoring.
- Ability to interpret engineering plans, specifications, and technical documents.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
- Effective analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines simultaneously.
- Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and environmental or engineering software applications.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Understanding of environmental health and safety principles.
- Strong organizational and project coordination skills.
- Ability to conduct fieldwork in varying environmental and weather conditions.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to perform field inspections on active construction or industrial sites.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Frequent use of computers and standard office equipment.
- Occasional travel to project sites, client locations, and regulatory meetings may be required.
- May require use of personal protective equipment (PPE) during field activities.
