Environmental Geologist/Scientist - Pittsburgh, PA
APTIM Environmental & Infrastructure, Inc. is seeking a full‑time Environmental Geologist/Scientist to develop and implement site investigations and remedial actions in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Responsibilities include design, installation, and monitoring of groundwater, surface water, and soil gas monitoring systems; collection of surficial and subsurface soil samples for environmental and geotechnical purposes; participation in design and implementation of in‑situ and ex‑situ remedial actions;
and occasional travel to project sites. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required. Successful candidates will lead and assist in field activities and document preparation.
- Collect environmental samples in the field from groundwater, surface water, soil, and vapor.
- Calibrate, maintain, and use field monitoring instruments.
- Apply technical skills to complete assigned tasks, managing own time to meet deadlines.
- Analyze and prepare raw data for engineering/scientific reports, plans, specifications, permits, and cost estimates.
- Install, operate, and maintain remediation equipment; supervise field tasks such as installing and abandoning monitoring/recovery wells.
- Communicate technical concepts, evaluation results, plans, and reports during work team meetings; ensure conformance to standards and policies.
- Assist project manager with project management responsibilities.
- Plan, conduct, and analyze aquifer tests.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to technical, project, and safety issues.
- Maintain a "Safety First" work ethic.
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in field investigations and supervising contractors.
- 40‑hour OSHA HAZWOPER training with current 8‑hour refresher certificate.
- Ability to wear appropriate PPE on hazardous waste sites; lifting and physical work required.
- Capability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Current GIT certification or ability to obtain it.
- Knowledge of scientific computer programs and groundwater models.
- Experience across a wide range of geologic environments.
Estimated hourly pay: $31.25–$38.50 per hour, depending on experience, education, and other factors.
