Job SummaryTYLin's Rail + Transit team in New York City is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Designer who is eager to develop their skills in designing HVAC and ventilation systems for transit infrastructure. This is an exciting opportunity for an EIT or early-career engineer to gain hands-on experience on MTA, Amtrak, and other major urban transit projects while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.
Responsibilities& Qualifications
What You'll Do:
- Support the mechanical design of transit stations, tunnels, and maintenance facilities, including HVAC and tunnel ventilation systems.
- Assist in preparing contract drawings, specifications, and technical documents.
- Perform engineering calculations and system modeling under guidance from senior engineers.
- Help ensure designs comply with NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC building codes, and other relevant standards.
- Collaborate with architects, structural, and electrical engineers to understand integrated design solutions.
- Participate in design reviews, QA/QC processes, and learn best practices in mechanical engineering design for transit.
What You Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- EIT certification required; PE licensure a future goal.
- 0–5 years of experience in mechanical design, ideally with HVAC or ventilation systems in buildings or transit facilities.
- Basic understanding of mechanical design principles and relevant codes (NFPA, ASHRAE, NYC building codes).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical skills.
- Enthusiasm for learning, professional growth, and working in a collaborative team environment.
- Clear communication skills and willingness to engage with multidisciplinary teams.
