Safety And Loss Control Specialist

Seeking a dedicated Safety and Loss Control Specialist to play a pivotal role in the operational excellence of this terminal. Renowned for its efficiency and productivity within the industry, this terminal operates with a skilled in-house labor force and flexible scheduling, enhancing vessel processing times. This role is integral to maintaining the terminal's commitment to safety and operational efficiency, offering an opportunity to make a significant impact.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Safety and Loss Control to:

  • Spearhead the implementation and management of the terminal's comprehensive safety and loss control program, encompassing cargo loading/unloading, storage, handling, and environmental compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with all terminal departments, organized labor, governmental agencies, and first responders to ensure a unified approach to safety and compliance.
  • Design and deliver safety training, field training, and safety talks to a diverse workforce to foster a culture of safety and compliance.
  • Manage shift scheduling and on-call assignments within the safety department, ensuring optimal coverage and rapid response capabilities.
  • Conduct thorough safety inspections in diverse and challenging environments, including cargo vessels and gantry cranes, adhering to strict safety regulations.
  • Lead detailed accident investigations, create comprehensive reports, track corrective actions, and analyze performance indicators to drive continuous safety improvements.

Ideal

Qualifications:

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent professional experience.
  • Proven self-starter with the initiative to address safety and environmental concerns proactively.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with a diverse workforce.
  • Positive, team-oriented attitude, with the ability to lead and direct various teams efficiently.
  • Deep knowledge of safety protocols, PPE, emergency response, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and willing to learn new software tools.
  • Physically able to perform inspections in varied weather conditions and settings.
