DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In the role of Deputy Communications Director 2, you will support the Communications Office by managing internal and external outreach to advance the department's strategic mission. Serving as an official spokesperson and advisor to the Commissioner, you will provide guidance on sensitive agency activities and coordinate closely with the Governor's Office to ensure consistent administration narratives. Your role involves directing media relations, overseeing the planning of press events, and maintaining professional relationships with reporters and department officials.

Daily responsibilities include responding to media inquiries, monitoring news coverage, and producing the daily clips briefing for executive staff. You will also lead the development of diverse content, including news releases, social media, and scripts. By organizing press conferences and managing promotional publications, you will ensure all public and internal information effectively and accurately represents the department's goals.

Work Schedule and Additional Information
  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework:
    You will not have the option to telework in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY Minimum Experience and Training Requirements
  • Four years of experience in preparing public relations promotion through all media; and a bachelor’s degree with major course work in journalism, communications, English, or a related field; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
Additional Requirement
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
