Death And Disability Specialist
The Death And Disability Specialist role helps provide peace of mind and financial security to members and their families during periods of loss or disability by ensuring benefits are administered accurately and in accordance with the Benefits Plan of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), applicable policies, procedures and protocols. This role is responsible for the timely and accurate processing of death and disability benefit claims including the identification and escalation of complex cases.
Through effective problem solving, critical thinking and a solution focused approach, the Specialist delivers exceptional member service while demonstrating compassion, empathy, and sensitivity of the death and during difficult life events.
What you will do:
- Process death and disability benefit cases accurately and efficiently in accordance with established procedures, service level agreements, and Plan requirements.
- Review, validate, and analyze documentation to determine eligibility and ensure accurate benefit processing.
- Escalate complex, high-risk, or non-routine death and disability benefit cases to the appropriate business partners or subject matter experts for resolution.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for members, beneficiaries, employers, and internal stakeholders regarding death and disability benefit inquiries.
- Demonstrate empathy, professionalism, and sensitivity when communicating with members and beneficiaries experiencing difficult life events.
- Research and resolve, benefit related inquiries and case issues using strong analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Collaborate with internal teams and leadership to facilitate timely case resolution and ensure a seamless service experience.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of case activities, documentation, communications, and outcomes within designated systems.
- Meet or exceed established productivity, quality, accuracy, and service performance metrics
- Identify process improvement opportunities and recommend solutions that enhance operational efficiency and member satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, Plan requirements, and data privacy standards.
- Participate in training, team meetings, and continuous learning initiatives to maintain subject matter expertise in death and disability benefits.
What you need to succeed:
- Associate's degree or equivalent experience in lieu of degree.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a benefits/customer service environment.
- Salesforce knowledge and experience is preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain complex benefit information clearly, professionally, and compassionately to diverse audiences.

- Effectively manages competing priorities, organizes workload, and meets deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- An ability, interest and desire to stay current on employee benefits administration and seek opportunities for professional development.
- An ability to work on-site Tuesday – Thursday at the 2000 Market Street office in Philadelphia.
