Description
Patient Registration Representative (Full-Time)
Location:
- Philadelphia, PA 19107
- Monday-Friday, 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM (flex shifts as needed)
The Patient Registration Representative is responsible for welcoming and registering all patients presenting for inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures. This role also performs unit-specific tasks that support the efficient operation of the Hospital and Business Office while ensuring an exceptional patient experience.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Greet patients, family members, hospital staff, and visitors in a respectful, courteous, and professional manner.
- Register and check in patients by verifying demographic and insurance information, collecting required co-pays, updating account details, and confirming that all necessary authorizations and referrals are obtained.
- Ensure patient admission packets are complete, including health questionnaires, privacy statements, consent for treatment forms, and patient bill of rights documentation.
- Review and correct insurance and billing information in the surgical software system in a timely manner.
- Communicate patient arrival and registration status effectively to pre-operative nursing staff.
- Support PAT (Pre-Admission Testing) functions and assist with patient decrementing as needed.
- Assist in preparing and completing patient charts for upcoming procedures.
- Respond positively to constructive feedback and demonstrate a commitment to professional growth.
- Direct patients to appropriate ancillary departments and respond to inquiries regarding hospital services.
- Answer telephones promptly, respond to requests, and provide routine information in accordance with hospital policies and best practices.
- Maintain patient files in an organized and orderly manner.
- Provide service recovery when necessary and escalate unresolved concerns to the immediate supervisor.
- Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the patient waiting and reception areas.
- Promote cost-effectiveness through appropriate time and resource management.
- Function as a collaborative and dependable team member.
- Demonstrate adaptability, flexibility, and accountability when responsibilities evolve, including performing qualified duties in other areas of the hospital as needed.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient and family information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital standards.
Qualifications
Educational requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required

- 1-2 years related healthcare, registration, physician billing, surgical scheduling and/or medical office experience required
- Excellent customer service skills and strong attention to detail required
Works in a clean, well-lit, and ventilated work area.
Physical requirements
Walking and standing; stooping, bending, balancing and sitting. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
