Therapeutic Activities Worker

THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Therapeutic Activities Worker to join our team at the State Correctional Institution (SCI)  this position, you will play a key role in supporting the well‑being of inmates by planning and leading therapeutic recreational activities within specialized housing units.

As a Therapeutic Activities Worker, you will be responsible for conducting formal assessments of inmate functioning levels, strengths, and needs to formulate individualized therapeutic recreation objectives for presentation to a multi-disciplinary treatment team. You will be responsible for determining methods for accomplishing therapeutic goals and coordinating activities to be integrated with other treatment disciplines. This position also gives you the opportunity to conduct individual and group therapeutic recreation programs and assessments, providing instruction, direction, and support to inmates.

Additionally, you will be responsible for recommending changes in order to meet inmate's individual needs, interests, and abilities; as well as participating in crisis intervention and resolution as problems may arise on the unit.

• Full-time employment, 40 hour work week
• Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
• This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.

• Four years of experience providing therapeutic activities for individuals with physical, medical, or cognitive disabilities; or
• A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in therapeutic recreation, physical education, vocational rehabilitation, vocational education or counseling, art, music, dance, or occupational therapies; or a related human services field; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
