Assistant Program Director

Position Summary
The Assistant Program Director supports the Program Director in the leadership, oversight, and daily operations of the program. This role provides supervision to program staff, assists with hiring and training, and helps ensure services are delivered in an ethical, professional, and person-centered manner.
The Assistant Program Director plays a key role in maintaining compliance with licensing, funding, and organizational standards while supporting staff and individuals served. A strong commitment to organizational values and quality service delivery is essential in the performance of all duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership & Staff Management
- Provide supervision and leadership to Site Supervisors, Program Specialists, Medical Staff, and Direct Support Professionals.
- Support daily program operations including implementation of individual service plans and required documentation.
- Assist with staff recruitment, scheduling interviews, and participating in the hiring process.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation of new staff as needed.
- Provide coaching, supervision, and documentation related to staff performance, including progressive discipline when necessary.
- Promote a collaborative and supportive work environment.
- Review site documentation to ensure compliance with licensing, regulatory, and organizational standards.
- Prepare documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and program compliance activities.
- Assist the Program Director in ensuring adherence to licensing regulations, funder requirements, and program budgets.
- Provide guidance and intervention during staff or participant crises.
- Support individuals served by promoting skill development, independence, and coordination of community resources.
- Visit program sites as necessary to ensure operational effectiveness.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in mental health, intellectual/developmental disability services, or related direct service work.
- At least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and standard computer applications.
- Valid driver's license for a minimum of three (3) years with an acceptable driving record.
- Must obtain and maintain required background clearances, including Child Abuse Clearance.
- Ability to travel locally to program locations.
This position may require:
- Standing or sitting for extended periods
- Walking and climbing stairs
- Using hands and fingers to operate equipment
- Reaching, pushing, or pulling objects
- Kneeling, stooping, crouching, or crawling
- Repetitive motions
- Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds
Work schedules may change based on program needs. Flexibility is required and may include evening, weekend, or off-site work.
