A State Government Agency in Philadelphia is seeking a Digital Accessible Document Specialist to support a critical accessibility initiative across City departments. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who is passionate about digital inclusion and ensuring equitable access to information for all users.
In this position, you will play a key role in remediating, creating, and validating accessible digital documents, helping the agency meet compliance standards while building long-term accessibility capabilities across departments.
Contract Details
- Duration: 12-month contract with strong potential for extension
- Schedule:
Full-time (40 hours/week) - Work Model: Hybrid (2 days onsite)
- Location:
1234 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA - Pay Rate: $25/hour
- Audit, remediate, and validate digital documents including PDFs, Word files, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations, and fillable forms to ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA, PDF/UA, and Section 508 standards
- Perform hands-on accessibility remediation using tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, Common Look, and PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker)
- Develop and expand accessible document templates, style guides, and authoring standards
- Create clear remediation workflows, tagging conventions, and QA checklists
- Conduct ongoing quality assurance reviews and track remediation progress against prioritized document backlogs
- Collaborate with Digital and Creative Services teams to support accessible document creation across departments
- Partner closely with the Accessibility Architect and OIT Digital Services team to ensure alignment with enterprise accessibility standards
- Provide guidance and support to departmental staff to help them independently produce accessible documents
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in digital document accessibility remediation
- Advanced expertise with Adobe Acrobat Pro accessibility tools (Tags panel, Reading Order, Accessibility Checker)
- Experience with tools such as Common Look PDF Validator and PAC (PDF Accessibility Checker)
- Strong knowledge of:
- WCAG 2.1 AA
- PDF/UA (ISO 14289)
- Section 508
- ADA Title II requirements
- Proven experience creating accessible templates and authoring guidelines in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Deep understanding of how source document structure impacts downstream PDF accessibility
- Strong knowledge of screen reader behavior across platforms
- Experience supporting government or public sector accessibility initiatives
- Familiarity with assistive technologies such as JAWS and NVDA
- Relevant certifications such as:
- DHS Trusted Tester
- IAAP ADS (Accessible Document Specialist) or equivalent
- Experience with document management systems, batch remediation workflows, and accessible forms
