JOB SUMMARY:

The Construction Procurement Co‑Op supports Amtrak's procurement organization in sourcing and managing materials, services, and contractors for capital construction and infrastructure projects across the rail network. This role provides hands-on experience in public-sector procurement, contract administration, supplier engagement, and cost management within a highly regulated, safety-critical environment. The Co‑Op assists procurement managers and category leaders in executing sourcing strategies for construction-related categories, including track, stations, facilities, and major capital programs.

Responsibilities include conducting market research, analyzing bids, supporting RFP/RFQ processes, and ensuring compliance with Amtrak policies, federal regulations, and funding requirements. In partnership with engineering, project management, and finance teams, the Co‑Op helps track project spend, monitor supplier performance, and identify cost-saving and efficiency opportunities. The role also supports contract documentation, data analysis, and reporting to enable informed decision-making and timely project delivery.

This position is ideal for individuals pursuing careers in supply chain, construction management, or procurement, offering exposure to large-scale infrastructure projects, cross-functional collaboration, and strategic sourcing practices.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support sourcing and procurement activities for construction and capital projects
  • Assist in preparing and analyzing RFPs, RFQs, and bid evaluations
  • Conduct supplier and market research to inform sourcing strategies
  • Help manage contract documentation, compliance, and procurement records
  • Track spend, savings, and supplier performance metrics
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and finance teams
  • Ensure adherence to Amtrak policies and public procurement regulations

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be actively pursuing a degree at an accredited educational institution.
  • Must be actively pursuing an undergraduate degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Must have at least 1 year of academic undergraduate studies completed or a sophomore status at minimum.
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.8 or higher.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in Excel and data analysis
  • Interest in infrastructure, construction, or transportation industries

PAY TRANSPARENCY:
The Co-op hourly range is $20.00 per hour - $23.00 per hour. Pay is based on factors including school year, program of study, etc. In addition paid internships include Amtrak rail pass privileges as a part of the experience along with one (1) PTO day per academic year.
