Highway Equipment Manager

THE POSITION

The Department of Transportation is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of Highway Equipment Manager
2. This important position involves managing the highway equipment program for the Cambria County Maintenance Organization. You will be tasked with overseeing the maintenance, repair, and dispatch of a diverse fleet of heavy construction and automotive machinery. You will also maintain the equipment repair facilities and the team dedicated to their operations. Strong organizational skills will be crucial for maintaining the building, grounds, stockpiles, and storage and maintenance areas for equipment.

In this key role, you will manage the planning and execution of the highway equipment maintenance program within a County Maintenance Organization. Your responsibilities will include analyzing and developing the County’s fleet model and budget, as well as overseeing the maintenance, repair, and dispatch of heavy construction and automotive equipment. You will supervise repair facilities and staff, ensuring that buildings, grounds, and storage areas are well-maintained.

Direct management will be provided to mechanic supervisors and shop personnel, and you will also create and implement a preventative maintenance program for both equipment and facilities. Additionally, you will assess the work of mechanics for quality and efficiency, inspect equipment for maintenance requirements, and develop the County Equipment budget. Keeping garage facilities clean and organized is crucial, along with managing the equipment operator training and certification program.

You will also need to hold certifications as a 3rd Party CDL examiner and equipment certifier, and oversee the CDL Drug & Alcohol testing program.

• Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.

• One year of experience as a Highway Equipment Manager 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
• Three years of experience in the repair and maintenance of gasoline and diesel engines and other components of heavy highway maintenance and construction vehicles and equipment including two years of such experience in a supervisory or administrative capacity; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training.

• This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License which is not under suspension with Air Brake restriction removed.
• This position requires possession of a valid Class 4 or Class 7 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Inspection Mechanic Certification by end of probationary period.
• This position requires one year of experience or training in the repair or maintenance of diesel engines.
