About the Housing Coalition of Western PA
The Housing Coalition of Western Pennsylvania brings together service providers, government partners, advocates, and community members to strengthen housing stability and prevent homelessness across a 20-county region. We serve as the collaborative lead for the federally recognized Western Pennsylvania Continuum of Care (CoC), ensuring housing systems are coordinated, accountable, and centered on people.
We believe the most effective solutions happen when professional expertise, lived experience, and community insight work together.
The RoleGoverning Board Members provide strategic leadership, fiduciary oversight, and community advocacy for the Coalition. This is a governance role focused on big-picture direction, financial stewardship, and strengthening system-level impact — not day-to-day operations. Applicants must live, work, or be actively involved in the Coalition’s 20-county Western PA region
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic oversight and help set organizational priorities
- Fulfill fiduciary responsibilities, including approving budgets and financial policies
- Support and guide Coalition leadership and staff
- Serve as an ambassador for the Coalition’s mission and values
- Participate in one or more Board committees aligned with your expertise
5–10 hours per month
, including:
- Monthly Board meetings
- Committee participation
- Periodic onboarding, planning sessions, or retreats
- Meetings are primarily virtual
, with limited in-person meetings each year.
- Enjoy big-picture thinking and systems-level leadership
- Are comfortable with governance and fiduciary responsibility
- Value collaboration, equity, and diverse perspectives
- Are motivated by housing justice and community-wide solutions
- Applicants must live, work, or be actively involved in the Coalition’s 20-county Western PA region
To complement current Board strengths, we are especially interested in candidates with experience in:
- Legal, compliance, or nonprofit governance
- Housing finance, real estate, or community development
- Business growth, partnerships, or revenue strategy
- Major gifts, capital campaigns, or philanthropy
- Marketing, communications, or public engagement
- Individuals with lived experience
- Individuals who identify as Hispanic or Latino
- Residents or professionals from Northwest Western PA
- You do not need to meet every qualification to apply. Diverse voices make the Board stronger.
