As a member of the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology the primary purpose of this position is to help manage the care of obstetrical patients in the outpatient setting while projecting a positive image of UPHS through excellent communication and customer service skills, to support patients/families, facility personnel and UPHS processes to ensure an excellent experience

The CRNP in the specialty practice of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Penn Medicine Washington Square, will work collaboratively with physicians, fellows, APPs, nurses and staff in a team approach to enhance patient care that enables the practice to streamline patient visits, improve patient access and provide a high level of coordinated, efficient and quality care to our high-risk obstetrical patients.

This position will include provision of direct patient care in the following settings with responsibilities as listed below:
  • Antenatal Testing Unit (ATU)
    • Interpretation, documentation, and billing of antenatal testing procedures
    • Assessment and subsequent management and coordination of care abnormal antenatal testing findings
    • Performance of AFIs and BPPs as needed
    • Assessment, triage and provision of E/M services identified during testing.
  • Ultrasound Reading Room
    • Preliminary review of first trimester, growth ultrasounds, cervical length ultrasounds
    • Collaboration with physicians on management plans and follow-up for patients
    • In person communication of ultrasound findings to patients
    • Care coordination with prenatal care providers, outside referrals
    • Patient tracking for highest-risk/ complex patients
  • MFM practice office
    • Perform preconception and perinatal consultations for patients referred to MFM
    • Collaborate with RN /LPN support staff to provide clinical guidance and management of MFM referred patients.
    • Participate in specialty and division meetings.
    • Respond to Heart Safe Motherhood clinical alerts, provide direct clinical care and management related to alerts and implement appropriate billing for management.
    • Provide clinical management for diabetic glucose monitoring and medication/nutritional adjustments; in collaboration with multidisciplinary team.
This position is Part-time, 3 days a week, 27 hours/weekly.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides direct clinical care for patient population according to established protocols and utilizes evidence-based practice standards in collaboration with team.
  • Maintains accurate and confidential medical records. Documents all medical evaluations, diagnoses, procedures, treatments, outcomes, education, referrals, and consultations consistent with organizational standards in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Identifies self properly to the patient and family and clarifies the role of the nurse practitioner or physician assistant if necessary.
  • The APP should function within their scope and refer to the collaborating/supervising physician when outside of scope, and/or directed by the physician or when requested by the patient and/or family. Performs interventions specific to assigned patient population and collaborative/written agreement.
  • Participates in the performance improvement processes to meet quality of care and service standards.
  • Demonstrates awareness of professional responsibility as role model to peers and members of the health care team.
  • Perform approved therapeutic or diagnostic procedures based upon patient's clinical status.
  • Addresses patient and family concerns and creates a therapeutic relationship to provide support.
  • Provide patient education, counseling and instruction regarding patient diagnosis, medical treatments, medications, and preventative care.
