Assistant Nurse Manager

This RN position requires a BSN. The Assistant Nurse Manager for this position will oversee daily operations of Outpatient Dialysis and Apheresis as well as Inpatient Core Team. This is a salaried position and this ANM may need to flex to evenings and nights to support staff.

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) reports directly to the Nurse Manager and serves in a key operational and leadership role responsible for executing delegated clinical, financial, quality and workforce priorities at the unit level. The ANM provides day-to-day administrative and leadership oversight, implementing and sustaining patient care systems, staff engagement strategies, and organizational initiatives under the direction and oversight of the Nurse Manager.

This role is primarily administrative, with some clinical responsibilities, focused on leadership presence, operational execution, staff supervision and professional practice support. The ANM contributes to a high-performing practice environment through effective supervision, change management, and alignment with departmental and organizational goals.

What You Will Do

  • Operational Oversight
  • Supports the Nurse Manager in maintaining financial stewardship at the unit level through effective resource utilization and operational oversight.
  • Executes and monitors systems to ensure appropriate staffing, assignments, and daily operational coverage.
  • Assists in managing unit performance against budgeted cost per unit of service, productivity targets, and staffing benchmarks.
  • Ensures efficient use of hospital resources related to daily operations, clinical programming, and unit-based education.
  • Assists with operational planning to support student placements, clinical experiences, and onboarding needs.
  • Supports implementation and sustainability of new workflows, technologies, and care models in collaboration with nursing leadership.
  • Quality, Safety & Compliance
  • Supports systems that promote evidence-based practice, professional standards, and regulatory compliance (e.g., safety, documentation, environmental and practice standards).
  • Assists in monitoring unit performance on nursing-sensitive indicators, patient experience metrics, and quality outcomes, escalating risks or trends as appropriate.
  • Collaborates with clinical leaders, advanced practice providers, and frontline staff to support action plans for continuous improvement in care delivery.
  • Promotes a safe, reliable care environment through consistent adherence to policies, standards, and patient safety initiatives.
  • Implements and evaluates unit-based quality improvement initiatives under the direction of the Nurse Manager, with measurable impact on quality, cost, and resource utilization.
  • Supports innovation and collaborates with nursing leaders in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of evidence-based practice initiatives, educational programs, and improvement projects.
  • Promotes a culture of inquiry, learning, and continuous improvement, including dissemination of outcomes and best practices.
  • Staff Supervision and Professional Practice
  • Provides visible leadership presence and day-to-day supervision of nursing staff, reinforcing expectations related to professionalism, accountability, and teamwork.
  • Coaches and supports staff through performance management processes, including goal setting, feedback, counseling, and annual evaluations.
  • Implements and sustains unit-level strategies under the direction of the Nurse Manager to foster a positive culture that supports engagement, retention, and staff well-being, as measured by department-specific metrics.
  • Supports staff recognition efforts and unit-based initiatives that acknowledge individual and team contributions.
  • Assesses individual and team development needs and contributes to succession planning and leadership pipeline development.
  • Supports staff in practicing at the full scope of licensure through appropriate role clarity, education, and resource alignment.
