Department Summary
The Discovery team at the Roche Innovation Center of Philadelphia is a core component of the Gene Therapy Center of Excellence within Roche. Our mission is to generate novel gene delivery tools and payloads to maximize the impact of nucleic acid-based medicines to treat human disease. The Vector Engineering, Genomics, and Computational Biology team specifically explores DNA regulatory elements that control the location, timing, and amount of gene expression for our AAV-directed gene therapies.
This group of expert molecular biologists and bioinformaticians is leveraging the most advanced DNA design and screening methods to create transformative medicines that are safer and more effective than the first-generation gene therapies.
This internship position is
located in Philadelphia, on-site.
The Opportunity
The Vector Engineering Intern will support the development of screening tools that extend the reach of AAV barcoded libraries from bulk tissue analysis to single cell resolution. This 10 to 12 week internship will focus on cloning and screening several RNA nuclear retention modules, particularly focusing on capturing nascent RNA transcripts using a RNA vault technologies to advance our pooled AAV promoter screening platform.
Program Highlights
- Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
- Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
- A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Required
Education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
- Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
- Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (not currently enrolled in a graduate program).
- Biological Sciences, Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry.
- Data analysis and visualization using standard tools (Graph Pad, R, Excel, or similar tools).
- Strong organization and record keeping skills.
- Familiarity with basic microbiology methods and sterile technique preferred.
- Strong pipetting skills.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Philadelphia is $23.00 - $28.00 hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
