Job Description Summary
The Nathanson laboratory is hiring a bioinformatician/programmer with expertise in statistical analysis to participate in on-going research in large-scale genomics and transcriptomics projects in the inherited and somatic genetics of cancer. This position seeks individuals to work semi-independently, providing bioinformatics support to investigators; managing and working in collaborative groups, locally, nationally and internationally.
Job Description
The Bioinformation B focuses on the analysis of single cell data analysis, highly multiplex immunohistochemistry data, RNA and DNA sequencing data sets, and multi 'omics analyses, along with large clinical datasets. If interested, the individual also will have the opportunity to work on analyzing genome-wide genotyping and next-generation sequencing data from large data sets (e.g. UK Biobank); constructing data analysis pipelines;
developing bioinformatics applications; and working with investigators to report and publish analytic findings from studies. We collaborate with multiple Penn groups and colleagues in major national and international research institutions to identify genomic risk factors for cancer and related phenotypes in large cohorts, case-control studies, family studies, and biobanks. Furthermore, the lab benefits from close collaborations with other analysts across Penn Medicine.
This position offers opportunities for career development, including the development of independent projects, participation in and presentation at national and international meetings, and manuscript preparation and publication.
Qualifications
+ Master of Science and 3 to 5 years of data analysis experience or equivalent combination of education and in the areas of Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Genetic Epidemiology, Computer Science, Data Science, Informatics or similar fields experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
+ Experience working in a Linux environment.
+ Competence in R/Python programming languages and bash scripting; and
+ The ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team and communicate effectively with team members.
+ Additional requirements include ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment and excellent organizational and time management skills.
+ Additional experience in other languages like Perl, C/C++, and SQL, statistical analysis software like SAS and Stata, and various development environments is highly desired.
+ Prior experience with single cell sequencing and NGS data a plus.
This position is contingent upon grant funding.
