Job Description Summary
The Penn Image-Guided Interventions Laboratory in the Departments of Radiology and Cancer Biology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania are seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Specialist. The research interests of our laboratory lie at the intersection of image-guided interventions, cancer biology and molecular imaging. Our lab seeks to unravel the influence of the tumor's metabolic microenvironment on cancer cells as well as non-cancerous stromal cells in modulating tumor progression and response to therapy.
The lab utilizes a multidisciplinary approach from in vivo animal models of cancer, biochemistry, molecular biology, and molecular imaging strategies. Our research emphasizes translation with the ultimate goal of leveraging our findings to develop novel imaging and therapeutic strategies for patients.
The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and have excellent organizational skills. This position offers the opportunity to participate in an innovative research environment, gain hands-on experience with a variety of experimental techniques, and make critical contributions to primary research publications. Qualified individuals will be expected to maintain animal colonies, perform locoregional procedures, surgeries and hyperpolarized magnetic resonance imaging on mouse and rat models, as well as perform tissue processing, immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence.
Additional duties include but are not limited to MATLab-based image processing as well as microscopy. Qualified individuals must have a bachelor's degree in science, at least 3 years of prior laboratory experience in some area of biological or physical sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience, exceptional organizational skills, willingness to work with animals, desire to work as part of a dynamic research environment individually and in a team.
Prior experience with small animal husbandry and surgeries is required.
Experience with MR imaging and locoregional therapy in these models is strongly preferred. In addition, the position will require significant lab managerial responsibilities as well as oversight of lab personnel and their research. We are most interested in candidates who are seeking a those looking for long-term specialist positions. Preference will be given to applicants with an undergraduate degree in biomedical engineering.
