Job Description Summary
The Skory Laboratory at Penn Medicine (Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology) studies the cell biology of oocyte development and fertilization, with the goal of improving outcomes in human reproduction. Dr. Skory is a physician-scientist in the Division of Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility whose work sits at the intersection of reproductive biology, developmental biology, and quantitative imaging, embedded within a leading academic medical center with an active IVF program.
The group uses high resolution live microscopy to capture dynamic cellular and subcellular events in real time, with direct relevance to clinical challenges in women's reproductive health.
We are seeking an experienced, self-motivated Research Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, operates with a high degree of independence, and is excited to contribute to a research program at the intersection of reproductive biology and women's health.
Research Areas:
Our lab focuses on three interconnected areas:
1. Live imaging of oocyte development
2. Folliculogenesis and ovarian biology
3. Translational research using human ovarian tissue
Job Description
Job Responsibilities
Research Specialist B:
The successful candidate will take an active role in day-to-day laboratory operations and research execution, including:
+ Supporting live imaging experiments and microscopy
+ Managing and maintaining the mouse colony
+ Processing and handling human ovarian tissue in coordination with our clinical partners
+ Performing molecular and biochemical techniques including cloning, immunofluorescence, qPCR.
+ Managing laboratory inventory, ordering, and receiving supplies
+ Coordinating shipping for collaborative projects
+ Maintaining meticulous documentation and lab records
+ Participating in regular lab meetings and feedback sessions
Research Specialist C:
+ Will have the duties outlined above for a Research Specialist B, with the additional expectation that s(he) will show a higher degree of independence, including the ability to design and troubleshoot experiments with greater autonomy and interpret study results, and contribute to manuscripts with less input from supervisor(s).

* Qualifications
+ Research Specialist B - Bachelor of Science and 1 to 2 years of laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
+ Research Specialist C - Bachelor of Science and 3 to 4 years of laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
We are open to candidates at multiple levels depending on experience including:
+ Proficiency in cell culture and standard molecular biology techniques
+
Experience with mouse model research
+ Familiarity with live imaging or confocal microscopy
+ Excellent organizational and communication skills
+ The ability to work independently while knowing when to seek guidance
+ A Master's degree is a plus
