Job Description Summary

Leads, oversees, and designs advanced experiments. Assists the principal investigator and plays a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of specific area of study and plays a crucial role in all aspects of research products including development, implementation, and data analysis. Assesses proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design.

This includes overseeing workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary. Responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presenting research findings through various forums.

Job Responsibilities:

The Research Investigator Sr. (SRI) will act in a leadership role, overseeing and designing advanced experiments. He/she will assist the Principal Investigator and play a leading role in developing a research program in the advancement of upper respiratory epithelial defenses.  Importantly, this individual should have substantial experience in the growth and manipulation of primary human epithelial cultures and analysis of infection of primary cultures with respiratory pathogens, and have experience with confocal microscopy, cilia beat frequency analysis, and immunologic assays, including flow and flow sorting.  

He/she will play a crucial role in all aspects of research products, including development, implementation, computational modeling, and data analysis. In the development stage, the SRI will assess proposed projects by conducting feasibility studies to provide valuable input regarding viability, efficiency, timeline, and study design. In the implementation stage, he/she will supervise and perform the project. This includes overseeing the workflow and productivity of lab personnel and providing training to them on specific techniques as necessary.

Finally, the SRI will be responsible for data analysis, preparation of manuscripts, and presentation of research findings through various forums. Senior Research Investigator must demonstrate the ability to analyze and present data in a professional "publication-ready" format and to be able to independently prepare manuscripts and grant writing for submission.  

Senior Research Investigator requires effective problem-solving abilities; communication and writing skills are critical.  Must possess the ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications:

M.D., Ph.D., and 5-7 years of post doctoral experience required. Highly advanced professional discipline.
