Haverford College invites applications for our full-time (37.5 hours per week), fixed-term (24 months), exempt, benefits-eligible Research Assistant opportunity.

Total Compensation

  • Salary:
    Salary range begins at $43,888
  • Benefits:

About the Position The Research Assistant supports the ongoing research in the Marshall lab, specifically investigating the cellular and molecular mechanisms of Alzheimer's disease. The position involves executing and optimizing experimental protocols, maintaining cell culture lines, assisting with microscopy-based analyses, and contributing to data collection and interpretation. The Research Assistant will also play a key role in laboratory organization, inventory management, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform molecular and cellular assays (35%)
  • Prepare reagents, buffers, and experimental materials
  • Maintain and culture cell lines
  • Record, organize, and maintain accurate experimental data
  • Assist in experimental design and troubleshooting (30%)
  • Maintain laboratory organization (15%)
  • Communicate effectively with lab members (20%)

Line of Report:
The Research Assistant reports to Courtney Marshall, Assistant Professor of Neuroscience.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in neuroscience or biology

Professional Competencies

  • Ability to adapt to evolving project needs
  • Ability to work effectively within a team-based research environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Time management skills
  • Proficiency in Powerpoint, Microsoft Word, and Excel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (managerial or scientific) in a neurodegenerative research lab
