Research Laboratory Technician
With minimal guidance and within established procedures, the Research Laboratory Technician conducts both routine and complex laboratory activities in support of the Global Innovation Center. The technician provides hands-on assistance to chemists and engineers throughout the research-and-development process, including data management and basic analysis of experimental results.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in designing experiments, then conduct them independently and collect, summarize, and present data.
- Prepare and evaluate coating formulations (electro-coat, primer, topcoat, clear coat) using mixing and spray equipment.
- Train on, and become proficient with, application equipment for spraying coatings on test substrates.
- Accurately run tests on all coating formulations and record results.
- Troubleshoot laboratory issues and collaborate with researchers when unexpected results arise.
- Document findings and communicate results via Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams.
- Contribute ideas for next steps, develop work plans, and manage daily workflow.
- Inspect and perform routine maintenance on experimental equipment.
- Maintain appropriate inventories of chemicals and supplies.
- Maintain a safe working environment and routinely handle, categorize, and dispose of chemicals.
- Handle multiple tasks under strict time constraints.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; effective in both independent and team settings.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable working safely with hazardous materials.
- Hands-on aptitude to gain deep product understanding.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills; able to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Strong computer skills and ability to interpret data and trends.
Skills & Qualifications
Education
2-year or 4-year degree in a chemical or life-science field or equivalent industrial laboratory experience.
