Job Description Summary

The Penn Neurogenetics Therapy Center (PNTC) supports a diverse group of neurogenetics investigators and clinical research professionals, involving work on investigator-initiated clinical research studies and complex industry-sponsored, first-in-human trials of gene therapies for neurological diseases. The research assistant may work in all phases of subject recruitment, enrollment, and execution of assigned clinical studies and trials, and will perform general administrative duties to support the PNTC.

Depending on study assignment, the research assistant may complete research activities at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP; primary location), Pennsylvania Hospital (PAH) and/or Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Hours are flexible and may include evenings or weekend as necessary.

Job Description

Clinical Research Assistant A:  The Clinical Research Assistant A will perform research and administrative tasks for research projects as assigned by the PNTC management team. Involvement in projects may range from several weeks to serving as the primary research assistant for a study. Depending on the PNTC research project portfolio, the Clinical Research Assistant A may assist with activities such as:
Prescreening, recruiting, and screening participants according to protocol;
Scheduling participant visits and any necessary testing;
Preparing for study visits including labeling and creating visit packets;
Collecting and reviewing study data;
Processing and shipping study biospecimens;
Escorting patients to research visits;
Assisting with regulatory activities such as IRB submissions, maintenance of site files and preparation for monitoring visits;
Assisting with organization and maintenance of study documentation, including source documentation, patient binders, site files and personnel files;
Participating in study team meetings and ongoing protocol training.

Clinical Research Assistant B:
Clinical Research Assistant B is expected to perform the duties above with less supervision from the study team (Director of Operations, Project Managers, Clinical Research Coordinators). In addition to above, the candidate will be expected to do more in-depth prescreening and review of medical records, data entry, and conduct delegated study visit tasks autonomously.

The job pay range encompasses the full range of employees from new hires to the salaries of Penn employees with many years of experience and seniority. It is not a precise indicator of the new salaries of new hires when working at the top end.

The position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications

+ A level:
High School Grad/GED and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

+ B level:
High School Grad/GE Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

+ Preferred:
Must be organized and able to prioritize; effective communication and writing skills; strong time management skills; flexible and able to multi-task; demonstrated ability to work as part of a team, as well as independently.
