Job Description Summary
This is a senior research specialist position in the Penn Digital Neuropathology Lab (Irwin Lab) in the department of neurology at the University of Pennsylvania School of medicine. The mission of the lab is to integrate wet lab human brain histopathology and molecular techniques with dry lab digital image analysis and informatics to develop tissue-validated biomarkers for neurodegenerative disease. This position requires experience with wet bench histopathology techniques and basic computing and database management.
Moreover, this position requires experience in maintaining and supervising general lab procedures, including supervision and onboarding of trainees. The primary role of the senior research specialist will be to perform and supervise wet-lab based immunohistochemical and RNA-based experiments from human brain tissues. This includes maintaining an inventory of tissue and whole-slide images. Other responsibilities include preparation of specimens (fixation, embedding, sectioning) and digital image analysis of histopathological images and ex vivo acquired 7T MRI images of brain tissue and supporting lab maintenance including budgeting for supply orders and maintenance of equipment and shipment of tissue and data to collaborators.

Qualifications
+ Bachelor of Science and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
+ Wet bench lab/histopathology techniques and basic computing skills

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job's level.
