Job Description Summary

The Shah Lab studies physiologic regeneration: whether restoring cell identity after airway injury is enough to restore how the tissue actually functions. We combine airway stem cell biology with quantitative measures of tissue function in mouse and human systems. (More: viralshahlab.org)

You'll design, execute, and analyze experiments in mouse and human airway systems under the direct supervision of Dr. Viral Shah. Comfort with animal handling and live experiments is required. Prior experience is welcome but not necessary. We will train the right person.

We're looking for someone who holds themselves to a high standard, works with discipline and consistency, and takes ownership of their work. Rigorous written documentation is necessary. You should be energized by learning new techniques, by hard problems, working in a team, and by work that can matter for patients. Strong communication, sound judgment, and the ability to organize your own work independently are essential.

Recent graduates should have foundational lab experience. Ideal for someone seeking formative research experience before graduate or medical school.

Job Description

Job Responsibilities

+ Conduct and analyze experiments in mouse airways (ex vivo, in vico)

+ Conduct and analyze experiments in human in vitro systems

+ perform, acquire and analyze experiment using confocal and other advanced microscopy, PCR and immunocytochemistry

+ Maintain mouse colony

+ Laboratory upkeep (ordering, organization)

+ Present at lap meetings, prepare manuscript for publication and grant submission

+ other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Research Specialist B in addition to the above responsibilities

+ Ex vivo human tissue experiments

+ In vitro mouse experiments

Qualifications

+ Bachelor of Science and 0 to 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

+ Must have some laboratory experience working with molecular biology, cell culture or biochemical techniques.

+ Must be willing to work with small laboratory animals and human tissue.

Research Specialist B:

+ Bachelor of Science and 1 to 3 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

+ As above and in addition must have the ability to work independently and to adjust to rapidly changing needs of principal investigators and senior researchers.

Position is contingent upon continued funding.
