Business Development, Sales Representative
I’m looking for the first person to take full ownership of sales at the agency.
To be clear, I’m not planning to build a traditional sales department with ten salespeople and several layers of management. This will most likely remain a team of one: you.
You’ll own the sales function, but you’ll also do the work. That means deciding how we approach sales, building the pipeline, opening conversations, developing relationships, shaping proposals, closing work and continually improving how we do things.
There isn’t an established sales machine waiting for you. There are no SDRs filling your calendar, and I won’t be handing you a detailed playbook to follow.
What there is, though, is a good design agency with strong work behind it, a clear opportunity to grow and a founder who wants to build that next stage alongside someone who really understands sales.
You’ll work directly with me and have a genuine say in how Brandbeet develops. That includes how we position the agency, what we offer, who we work with and where we take the business next.
I’m looking for someone senior who has done this before, trusts their judgement and wants to make the role their own.
WHAT I’M HOPING YOU’LL BRINGFirst and foremost, you’ll have successfully sold substantial design agency work into the US market.
That combination is non-negotiable. I’m not looking for someone whose experience is only in SaaS, media, recruitment or a general marketing agency. You need to understand what it takes to sell design.
You’ll have experience selling meaningful retainers, larger project engagements or, ideally, both. You should understand the longer buying process, the importance of trust and the challenge of selling work that doesn’t always fit neatly into a standard package.
Our ideal clients range from Series A companies beginning to invest seriously in design through to established enterprise organisations. You should be comfortable moving quickly with a founder or marketing lead at a scale-up, as well as navigating multiple stakeholders, procurement and longer decision-making processes within an enterprise.
- The ability to build your own pipeline from scratch. You won’t be joining a well-oiled inbound operation, so you should be comfortable identifying opportunities, opening doors and creating momentum yourself.
- The appetite to own sales personally. This isn’t primarily a management position, and success won’t mean immediately hiring a team beneath you. You’ll be the person driving the work from beginning to end.
- Strong commercial judgement. You should know which opportunities are worth pursuing, how to qualify them properly and how to move a good conversation towards a decision.
- Credibility with senior clients. You’ll often represent Brandbeet in important conversations, so you need to be comfortable discussing business challenges, not simply presenting a list of services.
- Real autonomy and accountability. I want someone who spots what needs doing, makes sensible decisions and gets on with it. We’ll work closely together, but I don’t want or expect to manage your every move.
- An interest in the wider agency. Although sales will be your responsibility, I’d love to find someone who is curious about positioning, services, operations and what makes the whole business work.
- AI fluency or curiosity. If you already use AI intelligently for research, prospecting, pipeline management or other parts of business development, that would be a real advantage.
You should be ambitious and comfortable asking for the business, but you should also be honest, thoughtful and focused on building relationships that last. Integrity isn’t something we’re willing to trade for a quick win.
We’re good, straightforward people, and we want to work with someone similar. We care about doing good work, treating people properly and being honest about what we can and can’t do. Many of our client relationships have lasted for years, and quite a few clients have become friends along the way.
That doesn’t mean we’re uncommercial or afraid to sell. It means we want to win work in a way that leaves everyone feeling good about the decision.
