Job Description & How to Apply Below
Candidates should have experience in neural tissue biofabrication, including biomaterial characterization, in vitro modeling, therapeutic screening, and in vivo implantation. Additional expertise in nerve fusion and the delivery and evaluation of neuroprotective drugs is expected. Prior experience with commercialization, startup formation, or teaching in academic entrepreneurship is strongly preferred. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree.
Responsibilities may include working with the principal investigator to lead translational research in rodent and porcine models of nerve and spinal cord injury; developing neuroprotective therapeutics, engineered tissues, and implantable devices; managing interdisciplinary teams and coordinating with CROs; supporting grant submissions, intellectual property filings, and early-stage translational activities; disseminating findings through peer-reviewed publications and national presentations; and co-teaching academic entrepreneurship courses for graduate and professional students.
The successful applicant will have an opportunity to gain experience in translational neuroscience, develop research independence, contribute to patents and translational ventures, collaborate with clinical and industry partners, and mentor students at the interface of basic science and translation through teaching and project-based learning.
Applicants should have a demonstrated record of high-impact research and innovation in neural repair, with a minimum of four years of postdoctoral experience. Prior involvement in NIH-, DoD-, or VA-funded research is strongly preferred. Ideal candidates will have experience managing sponsored research projects, including coordination with internal and external collaborators, budget oversight, and regulatory compliance. Experience in commercialization activities-such as patent filings, industry collaborations, or early-stage venture formation-is highly valued.
Teaching or mentoring in academic entrepreneurship, along with a strong record of securing intramural and extramural funding, will further strengthen the application.
The University of Pennsylvania is an equal opportunity employer. Candidates are considered for employment without regard to race, color, sex, sexual orientation, religion, creed, national origin (including shared ancestry or ethnic characteristics), citizenship status, age, disability, veteran status or any class protected under applicable federal, state, or local law.
