Diesel MechanicPosition Overview:

The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and diagnostics of diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. This role ensures optimal performance and safety, focusing on engines, transmissions, brakes, and other mechanical systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect, diagnose, and repair diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, and other systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using diagnostic tools and equipment.
  • Repair or replace worn or defective parts, including gaskets, belts, and hoses.
  • Conduct inspections to ensure vehicles comply with safety and emissions standards.
  • Maintain records of repairs, maintenance, and parts used.
  • Test drive vehicles to verify repairs and ensure performance standards.
  • Follow all safety protocols and keep the work area clean and organized.
  • Communicate findings and repair options with supervisors, team members, or customers.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED; technical certification in diesel mechanics or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Proven experience working with diesel engines and related systems.
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 100 lbs) and work in various environments.
  • Valid driver’s license; CDL may be required for some positions.
Preferred Skills:
  • ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification in diesel engine repair.
  • Experience with specific brands or types of diesel equipment (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, Freightliner).
  • Knowledge of electronic systems, such as ECM/PCM programming.
  • Welding and fabrication skills.
