SUMMARY
The Maintenance Internship at Hanwha Philly Shipyard (HPSI) provides hands-on exposure to industrial maintenance operations within a large-scale shipbuilding and repair environment. Interns will work alongside experienced maintenance technicians and supervisors to support the reliability, safety, and efficiency of shipyard facilities, equipment, and infrastructure.
This internship is designed to give students real-world experience in preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and facilities operations in a heavy industrial setting.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
* Ensure that all PSI safety procedures, rules and regulations are followed and met
* Assist maintenance technicians with routine preventive and corrective maintenance tasks
* Support inspections, basic troubleshooting, and minor repairs of mechanical, electrical, and facility systems
* Help maintain facility & maintenance logs, work orders, and documentation.
* Observe and support equipment shutdowns, startups, and safety lockout/tagout procedures
* Participate in facility upkeep, including lighting, HVAC support, plumbing, and general shop maintenance
* Assist with tracking work orders, service requests, and vendor documentation
* Assist with inventory tracking of tools, spare parts, and supplies
* Support space planning, signage, and workplace organization initiatives
* Maintain accurate records, drawings, and facility documentation
* Respond quickly in the event of an emergency, notify appropriate personnel and follow safety protocol

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
* High School diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.
* Must be at least 18 years of age.
* Currently enrolled in a technical school, community college, or university program related to:
* Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical or Electrical Technology, Facilities Management, Carpentry, Electrical, or Power Plant.
* Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical manuals.
* Ability to use electrical and mechanical test equipment (Multimeters, meggars, voltage testers, micrometers, gauges, etc.)
* Ability to use various tools and understand basic skills in the following areas; rigging, welding, pipe fitting, machining, electrical and electronic troubleshooting.
* Ability to follow instructions and work in a team environment.
* Strong attention to safety and detail.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Work at heights over 200 feet from ground level. A range of motion sufficient to perform general lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, climbing, working at heights, extended walking or standing, etc. is required. Employment in this position is contingent upon passing the medical examination.
