The Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic to enhance the Lehigh County Maintenance Organization. Descriptionof Work
In this position, you will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of various vehicles, including cars, trucks, and tractors, as well as equipment like sweepers, mixers, and front-end loaders.
- Replacing and repairing components such as shock absorbers, transmissions, clutches, and brakes.
- Balancing wheels and ensuring proper alignment.
- Performing minor body repairs.
- Conducting overhauls and tests on alternators and electrical systems.
As a licensed and experienced automotive and heavy equipment mechanic, you will use analytical, preventative maintenance, and repair skills on a diverse fleet of construction equipment and vehicles powered by gasoline or diesel engines, ensuring that our fleet is serviced effectively to uphold public safety.

Work Schedule and Additional Information- Full-time employment.
- Work hours:
7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. - Overtime, dual‑shift, and holiday work may be required during storm operations.
- Telework is not an option.
- Starting annual salary of $55,492 (before taxes) for new entrants to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

- Successful completion of the Commonwealth’s Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic Trainee program (or an equivalent federal government job title).
- Two years of journey‑level mechanic experience in diagnosing and repairing automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, including at least one year of experience with diesel vehicles or equipment.
- An equivalent combination of experience and training.
- Valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver’s License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed or equivalent.
- Valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations on the first day of employment.
- Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific equipment.
- Active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification within six months of the probationary period.
- Active Tank Vehicle Endorsement (N) within six months of the probationary period.
- Pass Department of Transportation’s New Mechanic Training course during the probationary period.
- Subject to drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
- Must be able to perform essential job functions.
