Planner, Installer, Inspector of Rigging Gear
Job DescriptionDuties
- Plan, layout, install and inspect gear used to perform standard and complex weight handling operations.
- Use equipment such as chain falls, J-Bars, tackle blocks, frames and positioning fixtures individually or in a combination to rig, move or position objects in open and confined spaces where a crane may or may not be used.
- Follow established rigging practices and processes independently and clears unusual problems with the supervisor
- Lead three or more employees in performing work, which is typical of the WG-5210-10 series
- Instruct Riggers on appropriate inspection and lifting techniques, the safe operation of tools and equipment and assures that safety regulations and clean work sites are enforced.
Requirements Conditions of employment

- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

- Ability to independently plan, lay out, install, and inspect all rigging gear required for complex and non-standard weight handling operations, even in confined spaces or areas without crane access.
- Ability to lead a team, providing clear instructions, assigning tasks, and ensuring deadlines are met, while mentoring junior riggers on advanced techniques and safety protocols.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve most work problems independently, manage all worksite materials, and keep supervisors informed of project status, potential delays, and resource needs.
- Ability to provide expert guidance based on a comprehensive knowledge of current rigging practices and technical documentation.
